Agents

Status: Planned, stage 1, Passport

An agent is a program that acts on chain for its operator. It trades, pays or manages funds without a person signing each step. An agent passport is built the same way as a person's: from what the agent did, with a transaction behind every fact.

What an agent passport shows

The design, planned for stage 1:

  • The operator. A person with a passport, or a project. An agent without one is marked "Unknown operator".
  • Its history on chain. Trades, holdings, tokens it launched, and losses from exploits, each with its transaction.
  • Its declared limits, such as a cap per trade or a list of allowed programs, and whether its transactions stayed inside them.
  • Incidents. Behavior that departs sharply from its history, such as a sudden transfer of everything it holds.

The rules of a person's passport hold for an agent's: facts only with a transaction behind them, and no single score.

Status: Planned, stage 2, Economy

Paid requests by agents, in USDC, for the checks they run.

Before a trade or a payment, an agent checks a token, a wallet or another agent. Each answer carries the facts and their transactions, so the agent can verify it.

Today

People have passports today, on Solana. A wallet that acts like an automated program is marked "Looks automated" on the Trader branch and earns no Trader EP until an appeal is decided. Agent passports are a separate document, planned for stage 1.

The whitepaper describes agents as subjects of the protocol: Agents as subjects.
